A week of Firsts

Bonjour! I’m going to skip ahead from the photo barrage for a minute here to give you an update on last week.

Last Tuesday, mommy and daddy and I went for a long drive. Daddy’s car was full of stuff, and I got to ride in a new, big-boy carseat (still facing backward) that was a gift from great Uncle Dave and Great Aunt Denise. I fell asleep and woke up in a strange place. daddy said we were in the mountains, in New Hampshire. There were lots of trees all around. Then, we went to a place called Vermont. We stopped for lunch at a nice rest area and I played in the grass. We kept driving until we stopped at a building that stretched across the road. A man who talked funny asked us where we were going and how long we were going to be there, and daddy had to show the man some paper so the man would believe I was me. Then we kept on driving. Finally, daddy said we were in Montreal, in Canada – a whole other country. This was my first time in Montreal, and my first time in a foreign country – even if it is just America’s hat.

We stayed for four days. We stayed in a hotel. I had a new crib that wasn’t mine. The hotel had a bedroom, a bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen, like at home. During the time there, mommy and daddy pushed me all around the city in my streamlined stroller. One part of the city had a lot of people who looked different. The stores there were filled with cartoon characters and weird foods. Another part of the city had really narrow sidewalks and bumpy, stone roads, and big stone buildings that daddy said were old. There were a lot of people in that part of the city. We went there a few times. We ate breakfast and dinner outside in that part of town, too. We also went to a big park with lots and lots of plants that I have never seen before. It was like the front garden at home, only waaaay bigger. We walked around there for hours and I played in the grass there, too. Mommy and daddy had to pay to get in, but it was free for me. They must like little boys. They had a whole building about bugs there, too. Mommy said it made her feel squirmy. Then we went to a building that had different kinds of outsides in it. There was woods like at home, and a cold place with funny birds, and a biiig fish tank, and some other places that I didn’t recognize. They all had plants and animals that live in that kind of place. There were a lot of kids there. That day I went on my first ride on a subway. They get a lot of people in those things.  I tried something called guacamole, too, for the first time. It was strange.  I’m not sure if I like it.

The people in that city talked funny. Sometimes, daddy would talk funny to them.

Then, one day, we left the city and drove and went back through the building that stretched across the road. Again, they made daddy prove I was me. I guess they are keeping tabs on me.

We drove back into that place called Vermont. We stopped in a town where daddy used to live. We went to a place that makes special french fries. Daddy said we had to go there. Mommy let me try a little peice of one of her fries. I liked it. Daddy seemed to really enjoy them, too. He wouldn’t give me one of his fries.

We drove some more then stopped to go on a tour of a place where they make ice cream, and we went to a store that sells things made out of apples, and one that has free cheese for mommy and daddy (I don’t eat cheese, but it looks good). We got another hotel room , and I had another crib. We went swimming there, too. That was fun. I like the water. The next day, we drove back home. I slept in the car again, but we were in there for a long time. I got fussy and mommy and daddy stopped to let me play on the grass somewhere for a while, then we finished the ride.

It was nice to spend a bunch of whole days with mommy and daddy. We had fun, and I played in the grass, and got to go for a lot of walks.

Daddy took some pictures and he’s going to try to get some up here soon. We’ll see.

Au revoir, mes amis!

Okay, March 29th was a big day.  After yet another trip to Target, mommy decided that it was time for me to eat some food that required a spoon, instead of a nipple.  It was a weird experience.  Daddy put this special chair together for me, which felt a little big.

Then mommy gave me some food.  I think it was oatmeal cereal and applesauce.

It was strange at first…

and despite being a little messy, I got used to it.

Now I eat a lot.  I eat fruit and vegetables.  My favorites are bananas and garden vegetables (whatever is in there – it’s green).

Next up, filet with gorgonzola.

Peace out brothers and sisters.

Hi everyone, Calvin here. Let me get you up to speed:

on Monday, the 17th, I had my first bath.  It wasn’t all that pleasant.  071217_cpe_1stbath05_web.jpg In fact, I was pretty unhappy throughout.  Mommy says we’re lucky to have the big slate sink because she can put my whole bathtub in there and wash me easily. I do have some nice towels, though.  This one has a hood on it, and a lion.  071217_cpe_1stbath10_web.jpg  I like animals.  I have animals on the walls in my room, and stuffed animals, and animals on some of my clothes.

On Saturday, Nana and Grandpa came over. They’re going to stay a while to help mommy out. At least that’s what they say.  Judging by what’s happened so far, they came to hold me.  They hold me a lot. It’s nice.  Uncle Steve and Sarah came down for a day, too.

I’ve got some moves that I like to do when I’m in the papasan and the carseat.  Mommy gives them names.  There’s “rollercoaster” when I put both hands up, “I have a question” when I just put one up, this one is “air guitar” 071223_cpe_airguitar_web.jpg  and there’s “he shoots, he scores” 071223_cpe_shootinghoops_web.jpg  .

Today is Christmas Eve.  I’m resting up.  Here’s a picture of me napping in my swing. 071224_cpe_swinging_web.jpg Daddy had a tough time with that picture because I was in motion and the lights were off in the room.  You can see my reindeer with Christmas lights shirt, though.

So that’s it for now.  I’m sure there will be lots of pictures taken of me tomorrow.  I hear that it’s a big deal that it will be my first Christmas.  Great Grandpa is coming over, and Uncle Cory, and Grammy and Grampy, and Great Grammy, too.  I’ve never met Great Grandpa, Uncle Cory, or Great Grammy. That should be fun.

Merry Christmas everyone.  Say hi to Santa for me.
